Georges Hüe was a French composer born in Versailles, France in 1858. He won the Prix de Rome in 1879 with his cantata Médée. He composed many operas and pieces, his most famous being Dans l'ombre de la cathédrale, an opera about the inner conflicts between Catholicism and socialism. His other notable oeuvres are Titania, Le Roi de Paris, or the ballet-pantomime Siang-Sin which he wrote after traveling to China.
While alive, his success remained modest as he failed to update his style in a time of great changes. His work was nonetheless greatly appreciated by fellow composers like Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré. He died in Paris in 1948.
